Laboratory Operations Coordinator

The Position

The Laboratory Operations Coordinator will be responsible for day-to-day operations within the laboratory and strive to maintain a safe, collaborative, and efficient work environment. The ideal candidate will have experience working within laboratory spaces and familiarity with ordering/purchasing consumables, inventory management practices, and general lab equipment maintenance and calibration. This role will be an essential part of the laboratory team responsible for development and characterization of biologic products for ongoing and future clinical applications. The Laboratory Operations Coordinator will be a cross-functional role and work collaboratively within a team environment. 

Job Responsibilities:

  • Manage laboratory space to maximize effective square footage and equipment utilization.  
  • Assist in onboarding of laboratory personnel to ensure comprehensive introduction to space, equipment, and safety training. 
  • Serve as the first point of contact for all laboratory related emergencies and equipment notifications. 
  • Perform (or coordinate the performance of) installation, preventive maintenance, calibration, routine start-up/shut-down, and general maintenance of laboratory equipment.  
  • Engage with external vendors to schedule services for equipment where in-house expertise is not feasible. 
  • Assist with the procurement of laboratory equipment by obtaining quotes, placing orders, and managing the shipment and delivery of equipment to Rion facilities. 
  • Monitor, maintain, and coordinate delivery of laboratory gases and liquids such as CO2 and LN2. 
  • Place orders for laboratory consumables and manage supply inventory control/logistics. 
  • Manage material and consumable storage spaces and warehouses. 
  • Ensure proper disposal of all laboratory waste. 
  • Work with the Environmental, Health, and Safety officer to ensure continuous compliance with Federal, State and Local requirements. 
  • Assist Safety Committee with maintaining updated Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for any hazardous materials or chemicals handled in the laboratories. 

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of scientific/laboratory-related experience in an academic or commercial environment. 
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in life sciences, engineering, or other relevant fields.
  • Knowledge of inventory management systems and strategies; experience with billing, budgeting, and reporting. 
  • Collaboration-focused, with an excellent work ethic and an optimistic attitude. 
  • Proven experience collaborating with the scientific staff. 
  • Adaptive to a fast-paced and dynamic environment. 
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and be able to stand for multiple hours at a time.
