Program Manager/Director

Rion is a clinical-stage biotechnology company based in Rochester, Minnesota. Rion was founded as a Mayo Clinic Employee Entrepreneurial Program startup company. Rion’s mission is to develop clinically impactful and accessible therapies using innovative regenerative medicine technologies based on extracellular vesicle science. The Position
Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer (CTO), the Program Manager/Director will lead drug development program teams spanning preclinical development through commercialization, depending on the asset stage, oversee/manage partners, and directly manage future Program Management staff.  

Job Responsibilities: 

  • Partnering with scientific/technical, clinical, and regulatory leadership to define program strategy. 
  • Leading cross-functional program teams such as CMC meetings and setting the target product profiles and aligned integrated global development plans. 
  • Managing program teams to deliver against set strategies and operational plans and ensuring continual alignment between technical plans, commercial objectives, and overall corporate goals. 
  • Manage resources and timelines to achieve overall goals of the company 
  • Driving through critical decisions within the team and strategic and operational adjustments as necessary throughout development. 
  • Communicating program status to leadership through routine program reviews  
  • Owning and driving cross-functional team performance to deliver agreed corporate goals for the assigned project(s). 
  • Driving issue identification and resolution, risk management and contingency planning. 
  • Creating a positive team environment that instills trust and encourages dissemination of accurate information and ensures clear and transparent communications to align around the objectives and goals for the project. 
  • Advancing functional and organizational excellence through creative thinking and consistent willingness to achieve stretch goals 

Qualifications: 

  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant pharmaceutical industry experience 
  • A minimum of 5 years of relevant Project Management experience 
  • Sound knowledge of all aspects of the drug development process, with early phase drug product development experience preferred 
  • Ability to travel domestically and/or internationally up to 10% 
  • Bachelor of Science degree in life sciences, engineering, or relevant to medicine, human disease, or pharmaceutical development. Relevant advanced degree or PMP certification are a plus 
  • Excellent communication, writing and relationship-building skills, with an ability to prioritize, negotiate, and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders 
  • Experience leading biologic drug development teams (biologics experience a plus) 
  • Excellent ability to embrace ambiguity and complexity and demonstrate problem-solving leadership with limited oversight; ability to translate complex concepts into actionable, measurable tasks 
  • Experience in developing and implementing a scientific strategy and putting in place activities that drive results 
  • A proven ability to work successfully within a reciprocal team environment as an individual contributor and decision maker within a cross-functional organization is required 
  • The ability to effectively prioritize assignments for multiple products and projects simultaneously is required 
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
